At Hightown we use the 'Letters and Sounds' programme for teaching phonics. It sets out a detailed and systematic approach to the teaching  of phonic skills for children, with the aim of them becoming fluent readers by the time they leave Year 2.

Below is an overview for each of the phonics stages from Phases 2 to 6. This shows what will be taught and when.  

We carefully match reading books to your child's phonic ability, allowing them to apply the phonics that they have been learning.  We use a number of reading schemes to support the mastery of phonics at Hightown:
